Hunter Biden Accused of Owing $300K in Unpaid Rent Despite Presidential Pardon
Hunter Biden faces new accusations of unpaid rent totalling more than $300,000 from his time renting a Venice, California, home between 2019 and 2020. The allegations come in the wake of his unconditional pardon by his father, President Joe Biden.
Shaun Maguire, a partner at Sequoia Capital, took to social media to claim that Hunter Biden failed to pay over a year’s worth of rent, amounting to $25,000 per month. “Hunter was our tenant in Venice, CA. Didn’t pay rent for over a year. Tried to pay w/ art made from his faeces. Absolute s– bag,” Maguire wrote on X.
Maguire also alleged that Hunter Biden changed the locks on the property and used Secret Service agents to block the landlords from accessing their home. When asked why eviction wasn’t pursued, Maguire cited concerns about the Biden family’s influence, describing them as “kind of a scary family to go after.”
President Biden signed a “full and unconditional pardon” for his son on Sunday, covering federal crimes committed or potentially committed between January 2014 and December 2024. The pardon does not extend to civil matters such as unpaid rent.
This isn’t the first accusation of unpaid rent levelled at Hunter Biden. In 2023, reports surfaced that he owed $80,000 in back rent to Sweetgreen CEO Jonathan Neman for a different Venice property.
Neither Hunter Biden nor Shaun Maguire’s representatives have commented on the latest claims. Unpaid rent disputes remain a civil issue and are outside the scope of presidential pardons, which address only federal crimes.
