More than three per cent of drivers in Hull’s HU2 postcode area have accumulated at least six points on their driving licence, according to the latest DVLA data.

55 motorists have six points or more in this area, which includes the northern part of Hull city centre and Wincolmlee.

The penalty for accumulating 12 or more points within three years can result in an automatic disqualification. The postcode area DN15, covering parts of the Humber region, has the highest number of drivers with six or more points, totalling 498 individuals.

In the HU3 postcode area, which includes Spring Bank, western Hull city centre, and St Andrew’s Quay, at least one driver in 37 has six or more points on their licence.

Please look at the breakdown below for detailed information on penalty points in your postcode area.

Speeding and driving without insurance are common driving offences that result in points, which typically result in a minimum of six points.

The DVLA data follows a report from Legal Experts.com, which noted a 40 per cent increase in hit-and-run incidents in the Humber region over the past three years. While severe injuries from these incidents are rare, they often involve drivers who fail to stop after causing damage or injury, which can result in five to ten penalty points.

In response to rising traffic offences, the Office for the Humberside Police and Crime Commissioner (OPCC) has allocated £65,000 from the Department for Transport to provide free dashcams to motorists and cyclists in the area. By July, over 250 dashcams had been distributed, and phase two of the initiative aims to distribute an additional 85, supplied by Road Angel and installed by Halfords.

The OPCC plans to launch a third phase of the dashcam distribution in early September, with another 100 Road Angel dashcams expected to be handed out. These dashcams will help report traffic offences via the Operation Snap platform, which handles submissions of footage for various infractions, including dangerous driving and illegal parking near schools.
