House Republicans are urging the Justice Department to charge Hunter Biden and James Biden with making false statements to Congress regarding aspects of the impeachment inquiry against President Biden.
In a move spearheaded by House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer, House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan, and House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Jason Smith, criminal referrals were sent to Attorney General Merrick Garland and Special Counsel David Weiss on Wednesday.
The Republicans claim that the Bidens’ false statements suggest President Biden’s knowledge and involvement in their family’s influence-peddling schemes, potentially aiming to shield him from the impeachment inquiry.
The referrals specifically target Hunter Biden for allegedly misleading Congress about his connection to Rosemont Seneca Bohai, LLC. This corporate entity received millions of dollars from foreign entities with ties to then-Vice President Biden.
Additionally, Hunter Biden is accused of providing false information regarding his positions at Rosemont Seneca Bohai and fabricating threats he claimed to have made to his Chinese business partner, implicating his father’s presence during the exchange.
House Republicans assert that a portion of the funds received by Hunter Biden has been traced to Joe Biden’s bank account.
James Biden is accused of unequivocally denying that Joe Biden met with Tony Bobulinski, a business associate of James and Hunter Biden, in 2017.
However, Bobulinski’s evidence contradicts James Biden’s statement, suggesting a deliberate attempt to protect Joe Biden from scrutiny.
House Republicans emphasize that Hunter and James Biden’s false statements are significant as they implicate President Biden’s knowledge and involvement in their family’s influence-peddling.
They argue that Hunter Biden’s attempts to distance himself from the Rosemont Seneca Bohai Bank Account and fabricate threats conceal the extent of Joe Biden’s involvement.
Similarly, James Biden’s denial of a meeting with Bobulinski appears to shield Joe Biden from his family’s business associates.
Chairman Comer asserts that their investigation has uncovered evidence of President Biden’s awareness and participation in his family’s exploitation of the Biden name for personal gain.
He condemns President Biden’s continued denial of involvement and characterizes Biden’s false statements to Congress as part of a concerted effort to conceal Joe Biden’s role in their schemes.
Chairman Jordan echoes these sentiments, emphasizing the seriousness of lying to Congress and calling for accountability.
He deems the criminal referrals reflect the Biden family’s criminal wrongdoing and urges the Department of Justice to act.
The move by House Republicans comes amid ongoing efforts to hold the Bidens accountable for their alleged exploitation of public office for personal gain.
Chairman Smith’s recent discussions on protected IRS documents further underscore lawmakers’ determination to address potential criminal conduct within the Biden family.
