Hillary Clinton has made a surprise offer to nominate Donald Trump for a Nobel Peace Prize if he can end the war in Ukraine without territorial concessions to Russia.
Speaking on the Raging Moderates podcast, the former Democratic presidential candidate said she would support the honour if the former president could broker a deal that forces Vladimir Putin to withdraw without Ukraine ceding land.

“Honestly, if he could bring about the end to this terrible war, if he could end it without putting Ukraine in a position where it had to concede its territory to the aggressor, could really stand up to Putin — something we haven’t seen — if President Trump were the architect of that, I’d nominate him for a Nobel Peace Prize,” Clinton told interviewer Jessica Tarlov.
Clinton added that her “goal here is to not allow capitulation to Putin.”
Her remarks came as Trump travelled to Alaska for high-stakes talks with Putin aimed at ending the three-year conflict. The former president has said he believes Russia’s leader is open to a deal, estimating the chance of failure at 25%.
The offer from Clinton — one of Trump’s most persistent critics — marks a stark contrast to her years of fierce attacks on him, dating back to the 2016 election campaign.

During that race, she described his supporters as a “basket of deplorables” and labelled him “temperamentally unfit” for the presidency.
She also criticised his praise for authoritarian leaders, including Putin, warning he was too “thin-skinned” to control nuclear weapons.

After losing the election to Trump, Clinton’s criticism continued. In February this year, she described his administration as “dumb” and claimed it left the United States “feeble and friendless” on the world stage.
Last October, she said Trump appeared “more unhinged [and] more unstable” than during his first presidential run.

Clinton has also accused Trump of undermining US alliances while “picking fights with friends” and emboldening adversaries.
Despite this history, she suggested that securing a fair peace deal in Ukraine could earn Trump international recognition — and her backing for one of the world’s most prestigious awards.

The Nobel Peace Prize, awarded annually in Oslo, has previously gone to US leaders including Theodore Roosevelt, Woodrow Wilson, Jimmy Carter and Barack Obama.
