Hezbollah launched more than 100 rockets at Israel, marking a year since the group began its attacks following the October 7, 2023, massacre.
Israel’s northern city of Haifa, which had been mainly spared from previous assaults, faced the most intense barrage. Around noon, 85 rockets were intercepted by Israeli air defences, followed by another 20 rockets half an hour later, according to the Israeli army.
Air raid sirens blared across Haifa and surrounding towns as some rockets were intercepted while others caused damage.
A woman in her 70s was injured by shrapnel from the second attack, which damaged several homes in the Haifa suburbs of Kiryat Yam and Kiryat Motzkin. She was reported to be in light-to-moderate condition.
Hezbollah’s deputy leader, Naim Qassem, stated in a televised address that the group’s capabilities remain strong despite Israeli strikes.
He boasted about Hezbollah’s recent attacks, saying, “Hundreds of rockets and dozens of drones have targeted Israeli settlements and cities.”
Hezbollah began its attacks on Israel on October 8, 2023, one day after Hamas launched a deadly assault, killing nearly 1,200 people and kidnapping 250. Since then, Hezbollah has frequently targeted Israeli communities and military posts along the border, framing its actions as support for Palestinians in Gaza amid the ongoing war.
This is a developing story. Further updates will follow.
