A groom discovered his new bride was a man 12 days after their wedding, with police alleging his new “wife” was scamming him.
The Indonesian man, known only as AK, had been dating his partner Adinda Kanza for a year in person after meeting online. The couple, both 26, decided to tie the knot and opted for an intimate ceremony at AK’s home in West Java after Kanza told him she “had no family left.”
The newlyweds moved in together as a married couple, but the groom soon grew suspicious of his new wife. Little did he know, his bride was allegedly in the midst of a sinister plan to steal his family’s assets by pretending to be a woman.
In reality, AK’s new wife had been pretending to be a woman for over a year to carry out the crime, according to police.
Kanza reportedly avoided intimacy on their wedding night by claiming she was unwell and menstruating, a ruse that continued for almost two weeks before the groom uncovered the truth.
AK had absolutely “no idea” that this was the case, as Kanza always wore a traditional Muslim niqab that covered her face during their dates, as well as her body. The man saw this as a sign of her devotion to her faith, not as anything sinister.
Even more bizarrely, AK explained that his new wife “refused” to speak to his family and continued to wear her niqab even at home when it was just the two of them.
The groom decided to investigate and managed to track down his new bride’s former address 12 days after the wedding. To his shock, he found her parents alive and well residing there. It was then he discovered the truth.
Their son, known only as ESH, reportedly began dressing in women’s clothes for the first time in 2020. The parents also had no idea their son was in a relationship, let alone married.
Authorities stated that Kanza “behaved like a woman” and had a “female-sounding voice.” “If you look at their wedding photos, Adinda looks exactly like a real woman,” police said.
“He also has a gentle voice and tone, so there was no suspicion about him being a man.”
Police alleged that ESH intended to marry AK to steal his family’s assets. They have now been arrested and are facing fraud charges that could land them behind bars for up to four years.
Authorities suggested ESH found joy in dressing in women’s clothes while dating men. It was also revealed that ESH had previously dated women.
Indonesia is a primarily Muslim country with conservative values, meaning many LGBTQ people struggle to be accepted.
Traditional social norms largely disapprove of homosexuality and gender transitioning. The investigation is ongoing.
