Google Under Fire for Alleged Bias in Search Results Favouring Kamala Harris Over Donald Trump
Google is facing allegations of bias after accusations surfaced that the search engine favoured Vice President Kamala Harris over Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump in search results.
The controversy arose when a search for “Trump rally” on Google displayed a photo of Harris under the Top Stories section, labelled as “Kamala Harris rally in Atlanta.”
The controversy began when users noticed that a Google search for “Trump rally” showed a photo of Kamala Harris under Top Stories, labeled as “Kamala Harris rally in Atlanta.” This raised concerns, especially coming just days after the search engine was accused of censoring information about an assassination attempt on the former president.
A review by The Post revealed that the term “Trump rally” no longer showed Harris’ photo as the top result. However, search results still prominently featured articles from left-leaning media outlets supporting Joe Biden’s administration, pushing news about Trump’s recent rally further down the page.
Elon Musk and financial commentator Jim Osman brought attention to the issue on social media, highlighting the perceived bias in Google’s search results.
Google declined to comment directly but referred to a tweet by its PR team, stating that news labels are generated automatically based on related topics and evolve.
This incident follows previous allegations of censorship against Google, including reported issues with the Autocomplete function not suggesting search terms for the assassination attempt on Trump.
Former President Trump and his son, Donald Trump Jr., have condemned these incidents, accusing Google of attempting to rig the election. Senator Roger Marshall of Kansas has called for an official inquiry into why Google is suppressing searches about the Trump assassination attempt, demanding accountability from the tech giant.
Additionally, Google’s founders, Larry Page and Sergey Brin, are known Democrat donors, and a 2020 study found that 88% of parent company Alphabet’s staffers are Democrats. This has fueled ongoing debate about potential bias and election interference by big tech companies.
