Gardaí in Limerick seized a vehicle during overnight patrols after discovering the driver was operating without insurance.
The proactive stop occurred as part of routine mobility checks, during which Garda officers used their mobile devices to access the Insurance Motor Insurance Database (IMID). The check confirmed that the driver did not have valid insurance.
The car was immediately seized under the provisions of the Road Traffic Act, and Gardaí have confirmed that court proceedings are expected to follow.
Authorities say the incident highlights the importance of regular patrols and mobile technology in keeping roads safer.
“Driving without insurance is a serious offence and poses a risk to all road users,” a Garda spokesperson said. “We remain committed to targeting illegal drivers to ensure road safety.”
The operation forms part of an ongoing effort by Gardaí nationwide to crack down on uninsured drivers and promote compliance with road traffic legislation.
