Gardaí have launched an investigation following the discovery of skeletal human remains at a building site near Clondalkin Fonthill train station in west Dublin early Wednesday morning.
According to sources who spoke to The Mirror, the remains were unearthed during construction work at the Seven Mills site in Dublin 22. Initial assessments suggest that two separate sets of skeletal remains were uncovered.
The area has since been sealed off as forensic and archaeological teams examine the scene. Gardaí are maintaining a strong presence at the site as part of their ongoing inquiries.
While the full origin of the remains is yet to be determined, investigators do not believe the discovery is connected to any missing person cases.
Sources familiar with the case have indicated that Gardaí believe the site may have once been an ancient Christian burial ground, pointing to the possibility that the remains are historical in nature.
In a statement released this afternoon, a Garda spokesperson confirmed the discovery and outlined the next steps in the investigation.
“Gardaí are investigating all the circumstances following the discovery of skeletal remains at a building site at Seven Mills, Dublin 22, this morning, Wednesday 23rd July 2025,” the statement read. “The Coroner’s Office will be notified and investigations are ongoing.”
The State Pathologist’s Office and the National Museum of Ireland are expected to be consulted, given the suspected historical nature of the find.
Local sources told M10News that the construction project has been temporarily halted while experts assess the significance of the remains.
This is a developing story.
