Frank Thomas, Former Baseball Player, Incorrectly Reported Dead by Fox News
Fox News mistakenly reported that Baseball Hall of Famer Frank Thomas had passed away. During the show, The Faulkner Focus, the network ran a video to honour those prominent figures who have passed away this year and showed a clip of “The Big Hurt” during his career to accompany a clip of his Hall of Fame induction.
However, Thomas is not dead, and Fox News is meant to pay tribute to former MLB outfielder Frank Thomas, a three-time MLB All-Star born in 1929 and who died on January 16 at 93.
The now 55-year-old Thomas, who was a Fox baseball analyst from 2014 until this past spring, responded to his “death” on social media. He expressed his disappointment and called out his ex-employer for being irresponsible on national TV. Thomas confirmed that he is alive and doing well.
Fox News later issued a correction acknowledging the mistake. Anchor Julie Banderas explained that they had misidentified Frank Thomas, and the Frank Thomas they showed was also a former professional baseball player. However, he is very much alive.
This incident caused a stir on social media, with many people expressing their disbelief and frustration at Fox News for the mistake. Despite the correction, the incident highlights the importance of fact-checking and accuracy in journalism.
