Four people were hospitalised following a collision between a Luas tram and a van during the morning rush hour, causing delays and disruptions along the RedLinee at Smithfield in Dublin.
The incident occurred around 9:15 am, prompting emergency response teams, including Dublin Fire Brigade, to the scene. Dublin Fire Brigade confirmed transporting four injured individuals to the hospital for treatment.
Commuters utilising the Luas Red line faced interruptions as services were temporarily restricted between Tallaght/Saggart and Blackhorse, with no service operating between Blackhorse and The Point/Connolly stations. However, regular services have since resumed.
The collision at Smithfield also resulted in the closure of Queen Street at Benburb Street, temporarily halting traffic flow until the area was reopened.
Dublin Fire Brigade deployed three Fire Engines from Phibsborough and Dolphins Barn stations, an Emergency Tender, four Ambulances, and a District Officer to manage the incident’s aftermath, ensuring swift medical attention and scene management.
Despite the severity of the crash, the Luas line was reopened within 30 minutes, showcasing efficient emergency response and recovery efforts.
