Three former Trump White House officials, Alyssa Farah Griffin, Cassidy Hutchinson, and Sarah Matthews, have expressed their concerns about possibly a second Trump term in the presidency.
In an interview with ABC News Chief Washington Correspondent Jonathan Karl, the women shared their views on what a second Trump term could mean for American democracy.
Griffin, who served as communications director in the Trump White House until she resigned in December 2020, stated that a second Trump term could mean the end of American democracy as we know it.
She expressed her concern that Trump will break every barrier to get into and stay in control. Hutchinson, a former aide to White House chief of staff Mark Meadows, and Matthews, a former White House deputy press secretary, also shared their concerns about possibly a second Trump term.
The women expressed their concerns about Trump’s attempts to steal the 2020 election and his willingness to go to historic and unconstitutional lengths to do so.
They also highlighted Trump’s increasingly erratic rhetoric, including his calls to do away with parts of the Constitution and weaponize the Department of Justice to enact revenge on his political enemies.
Matthews also pointed out that Trump still doubles down on the fact that he thinks the election was stolen and fraudulent.
Hutchinson became a primary target of Trump’s ire following her bombshell testimony, and she highlighted Trump’s recent remarks on whether he’d rule like a dictator if elected in 2024.
She expressed her concern that Trump is a weak and feeble man who has no sense of character and integrity and no sense of leadership. The women agreed that a second Trump term would harm American democracy.
The women cooperated with the House Jan. 6 committee’s investigation of Trump’s conduct following the 2020 election. Hutchinson and Matthews testified publicly at televised hearings and closed-door testimony, while Griffin sat for a private behind-the-scenes interview with the Jan. 6 committee.
The Jan. 6 committee’s closed-door witness interviews were eventually published, but not all those involving Hutchinson.
The Trump campaign has not yet commented on the concerns raised by the former White House officials.
