A former aide to Donald Trump, Alyssa Farah Griffin, revealed that she voted for Kamala Harris in the upcoming presidential election, representing a notable shift in her political alignment.

During an episode of “The View” on Tuesday, Griffin shared her decision with her co-hosts and the audience, stating, “This weekend, on Saturday, for the first time in my life, I voted for a Democrat,” as applause erupted in the studio.

The 35-year-old political strategist emphasised that while she voted for Republicans in other races, she prioritised her “values” in her presidential choice. “I consider my vote on loan to her,” she explained, expressing concerns about Trump’s potential return to power. “I’m worried about the direction that Donald Trump will take this country, and I take my warning seriously.”

Griffin identified herself as a “Christian,” “American,” and “Republican,” in that order, asserting the need for a leader who embodies kindness and decency. “I need somebody who shares my values,” she reiterated.

“I don’t agree with a lot of her policies, [and] we can criticise those down the road, but today, it’s about a brighter future, and I think the best thing for the country and the future of the Republican Party is Donald Trump loses and Kamala Harris is elected.”

Reflecting on her past views, Griffin recalled her time with Trump on election night in 2020, when it became clear he was losing. “I thought the next four years would be the Republican Party rebuilding and becoming something I could believe in and turning the page on Donald Trump, and it didn’t,” she stated, explaining her current rationale.

She concluded her announcement with a message of unity that Harris has often repeated: “I believe there’s more that unites this country than divides us. Our politicians may make us feel otherwise, and campaign cycles may make us feel otherwise, but I believe we have common, shared American values.”

Griffin’s revelation garnered praise from her fellow co-hosts. Sunny Hostin exclaimed, “Good girl! Way to go, Alyssa!” while Sara Haines acknowledged the potential backlash Griffin might face, calling it a “big move.” Haines stated, “I think of it less as you voting for a Democrat and more for you voting for a democracy, for a constitution, so I commend you for that.”

She also made history as the youngest press secretary for the Pentagon in 2019 and served in various roles within the Department of Defense.
