Former US President Donald Trump took aim at his predecessor, Barack Obama, during a rally in Greensboro, North Carolina, on Tuesday.

Trump harshly criticized Obama for campaigning on behalf of Vice President Kamala Harris, even going as far as to call him a “jerk.”

Trump’s comments came after Obama, 63, made a surprise appearance at a rally for Harris in Detroit.

During the rally, Obama rapped a portion of Eminem’s hit song “Lose Yourself,” drawing attention and sparking mixed reactions from both supporters and critics.

“I think he’s a real jerk because I watched him campaign over the last couple of days,” Trump told his supporters at the North Carolina event.

He accused Obama of being a divisive figure, saying, “He divided this country… he was terrible.”

Trump went on to claim that Obama’s involvement in the campaign was due to Harris’s inability to handle it on her own. “She’s incapable of campaigning,” he stated, suggesting that Obama was brought in to bolster Harris’s image on the campaign trail.

Eminem, a Detroit native, also took the stage at the rally to introduce Obama. The rapper publicly declared his support for Harris and highlighted the importance of voting in the upcoming election. “Detroit and Michigan mean a lot to me,” Eminem said, encouraging the crowd to use their voices at the polls.

Emphasizing the significance of speaking up, Eminem urged voters to express their opinions without fear of retribution.

He reminded the audience of their power in the democratic process, particularly as the spotlight is on Michigan this election season.

Trump, however, mocked the Democratic Party’s reliance on celebrities to draw attention to their events. He claimed that the party was using Obama and others to boost attendance at rallies, stating, “They bring him out because no one goes to these rallies.”

Continuing his critique, Trump told his supporters that Harris couldn’t engage with crowds for long periods. “She can’t talk for more than 15 minutes,” he remarked, contrasting Harris’s campaign efforts with his own ability to attract large crowds.

Eminem, who has been an outspoken critic of Trump, used his platform to express support for Harris’s vision for the future of the country. He argued that Harris is committed to protecting the freedoms that matter most to Americans, drawing applause from the audience.

After Eminem’s introduction, Obama took the stage with energy and charisma. He praised the rapper for his influence and connection to Detroit before launching into an impromptu performance of “Lose Yourself,” which excited the crowd.

Despite Obama’s enthusiastic reception at the rally, his performance received mixed reactions on social media. Some users criticized the moment as “cringe,” while others enjoyed the unexpected display of personality from the former president.

Obama, unfazed by the criticism, admitted that he felt nervous following Eminem’s introduction. “I don’t usually get nervous, but I was feeling some kind of way following Eminem,” Obama said with a smile before continuing his speech.

As he rapped the lyrics, “My palms are sweaty, knees weak, arms are heavy,” the crowd erupted into applause, showing their appreciation for Obama’s attempt to connect with the audience through the iconic song.

While Eminem’s endorsement of Harris was not surprising, given his history of speaking out against Trump, the rapper’s presence at the rally underscored the stark contrast between the two political camps.

Eminem has frequently criticized Trump in interviews and songs, expressing frustration with the former president’s policies and supporters.

Trump closed out his remarks by continuing to criticize both Obama and the Democratic Party, dismissing their reliance on celebrity endorsements. He told his supporters that the use of stars like Eminem was a sign that the Democrats were struggling to generate enthusiasm on their own.
