A 64-year-old teacher has been charged in connection with a historical sexual assault involving a minor that occurred in Caledon, Ont., in 2002.

The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Caledon detachment announced the charges in a press release on Tuesday. The investigation into the case began in November 2022, following a report by the victim detailing the assault.

The accused, from Stoney Creek, Ont., faces charges of sexual assault, sexual interference, and invitation to sexual touching involving a person under 16 years of age. The teacher worked in Caledon, Brampton, and Mississauga until June 2024.

The alleged assault took place while the accused was employed in Caledon in 2002. The teacher was scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Orangeville on August 29.

The OPP is urging anyone with information related to this case or similar incidents to contact the Caledon OPP at 1-888-310-1122 or their local police. Information can also be provided anonymously through Peel Crime Stoppers.
