Former Bristol Couple Identified as Victims Found in Suitcase, Had Lived with Suspect
A man has been remanded in custody after appearing in court charged with the murder of two men whose remains were found in suitcases in Bristol and at a home in west London.
Yostin Andres Mosquera, of Scotts Road, Shepherd’s Bush, was arrested in Bristol early Saturday morning. Following his appearance at Wimbledon Magistrates’ Court this afternoon, he was remanded in custody.
The two victims were identified as 62-year-old Albert Alfonso and 71-year-old Paul Longworth, who had been a couple. Mosquera had stayed with them for a while at their property on Scotts Road, according to the Metropolitan Police.
Police were alerted when Mosquera was spotted exiting a taxi near the Clifton Suspension Bridge around midnight on July 10, with a suitcase seen leaking blood.
A witness, a cyclist, filmed and pursued the 34-year-old suspect until he turned and appeared to push him.
Police shared images from the video, showing a bearded Mosquera wearing a backpack, black clothes, and an Adidas cap.
Armed officers arrested Mosquera at Temple Meads train station in Bristol on Saturday.
He was taken to London for questioning in a joint operation involving the Metropolitan Police and Avon & Somerset Police and was charged today.
Deputy Assistant Commissioner Andy Valentine expressed condolences to the victim’s loved ones, noting that while neither had close family, next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers. He reassured the public that no other suspects are being sought while the investigation is ongoing.
Forensic officers were seen working at the crime scene in Shepherd’s Bush, west London, on Saturday morning.
On Friday afternoon, a helicopter circled above Scotts Road as officers cordoned off an area near a high-rise building.
A Met Police spokesperson stated, “While searching a flat in Scotts Road, W12 on Friday, July 12, officers found human remains which are in the process of being sensitively removed. Additional post-mortem examinations will be arranged as soon as possible.”
This investigation has raised concerns within the Shepherd’s Bush community and the wider LGBTQ+ community across London. The police continue their efforts to identify any extended family members of the victims.
