Former Arsenal and Dundee Star Fabian Caballero Dies at 46

Former Arsenal and Dundee forward Fabian Caballero has passed away at the age of 46. Born in Paraguay, Caballero was signed by Arsenal manager Arsène Wenger in 1998 but made only three appearances for the club due to fierce competition from players like Nicolas Anelka, Nwankwo Kanu, and Dennis Bergkamp.

Following his time at Arsenal, he returned to Paraguay to rejoin Atlético Tembetary.

In 2000, Caballero returned to British football, signing with Dundee, where he spent five seasons and earned a Scottish Cup runners-up medal in 2003 after losing to Rangers in the final. Dundee Football Club expressed its shock and sorrow in a statement: “

All at Dundee Football Club are incredibly shocked and saddened this morning to learn of the passing of former Dundee player Fabian Caballero. Fabian passed away at age 46 and will be greatly missed by everyone at Dundee Football Club. The thoughts of everyone at the club are with Fabian’s family at this sorrowful time.”

Caballero played in Greece, Cyprus, South Korea, and Guatemala throughout his career, earning the nickname “Tyson” for his combative playing style.

It is reported that Caballero collapsed while playing futsal with friends in Asuncion, Paraguay.

The Paraguayan Football Association released a statement expressing their condolences: “The Paraguayan Football Association deeply regrets the passing of former footballer Fabián Caballero, who had an outstanding career both in Paraguayan football and abroad. We accompany the family and friends in this difficult time.”
