Florida Woman Arrested in Connecticut, Charged with 2022 Murder of Missing Roommate

A Florida woman, Gisselle Victoria-Gonzalez, has been arrested in Hartford, Connecticut, in connection with the disappearance and presumed murder of her roommate, Runyleidy Medina-Pacheco.

The arrest, announced by Orlando Police, comes nearly two years after Medina-Pacheco vanished on Christmas Day 2022. Victoria-Gonzalez now faces charges of second-degree murder, tampering with physical evidence, and grand theft.

Medina-Pacheco, who was 42 at the time of her disappearance, has not been seen since December 25, 2022. Her body remains missing, but evidence gathered during the investigation suggests she met a violent end.

Police have indicated that the findings at her shared residence in Orlando led to suspicions of foul play.

According to authorities, Victoria Gonzalez reported her roommate missing on December 27, stating she hadn’t seen her for two days.

However, inconsistencies in her account soon emerged during police questioning. Detectives noted multiple discrepancies in her story, leading to a deeper investigation.

Police secured a search warrant for the residence that Victoria Gonzalez and Medina-Pacheco shared.

Upon entering the property, detectives reportedly found evidence of a violent struggle, though the specifics have not been disclosed. This discovery heightened suspicions and set off a multi-agency investigation.

The case, supported by state and federal authorities, eventually led detectives to Hartford, Connecticut, where Victoria-Gonzalez had relocated.

Orlando detectives travelled to Hartford to interview her and, after gathering additional evidence, found probable cause to make an arrest. She was then taken into custody on Thursday.

A video released by the Orlando Police Department shows Victoria-Gonzalez dressed in a red dress, walking handcuffed between officers.

Her arrest marks a significant step in the case that has puzzled investigators for almost two years. Despite her arrest, Orlando authorities have not disclosed further details on Medina-Pacheco’s disappearance.

This high-profile case is part of a growing trend of revisiting missing-person cases with advanced investigative techniques.

Forensic analysis and digital evidence reportedly played a crucial role in this investigation. Police have not specified what type of evidence directly led to the charges.

Orlando Police Chief Eric Smith thanked local, state, and federal agencies for their assistance in bringing the case to this stage.

He noted that cases like these require extensive cooperation and resources. Authorities also issued a statement emphasising their commitment to seeking justice for Medina-Pacheco and her family.

Victoria-Gonzalez now awaits extradition to Florida, where she will face charges.

The Orlando Police Department has yet to release additional information on the possible motives or other suspects involved in the case.
