Simon Harris, leader of Fine Gael, has reached out to three Independent TDs, namely Marc MacSharry, Seán Canney, and Michael Lowry, in anticipation of the upcoming vote in the Dáil to elect him as Taoiseach.
Discussions were held with Marc MacSharry, Seán Canney, and Michael Lowry, who plan to meet Denis Naughton, Cathal Berry, and Noel Grealish shortly.
However, Mr. Harris has clarified that he will not deal with Independents.
While the Government holds a narrow majority, it typically relies on the support of Independent deputies.
Mr MacSharry has already signaled his support for Mr. Harris in the vote scheduled for April 9th.
In a statement this evening, Mr. Canney mentioned that he and Mr. Harris covered various topics concerning the country and his constituency of Galway East, including issues affecting small businesses and individuals with disabilities.
Mr. Canney noted that Mr. Harris has committed to addressing some queries and, therefore, has yet to finalize his decision regarding next week’s vote.
