Emily Ratajkowski Initiates Trend with ‘Divorce Rings’ Revelation

Emily Ratajkowski took to Instagram to showcase her ‘divorce rings’, adorning her fourth and fifth fingers with pieces from New York City-based jewellery brand Alison Lou.

In her post, which includes pictures and videos, the 32-year-old model and actress repurposed her two-stone engagement ring from her ex-husband Sebastian Bear-McClard, symbolising her evolution.

Inspired by Stephanie Danler’s essay, The Unravelers, Ratajkowski embraced the idea of a ring symbolising the many chapters of a woman’s life, akin to Danler’s great-grandmother’s “Snake Ring”.

Alison Chemla, the creator of Ratajkowski’s original engagement ring, split the two diamond stones and placed them on separate gold bands, augmenting them with two extra diamonds, as seen in Chemla’s Instagram post captioned: “Divorce Rings™️”.

According to jeweller Nilesh Rakholia, divorce jewellery is a tribute to the past while aiding in moving forward, a sentiment echoed by Arabel Lebrusan, founder of Lebrusan Studio, emphasising the resilience of gold and diamonds for repurposing.

During an interview with Harper’s Bazaar in 2022, Ratajkowski candidly discussed her emotions post-divorce, expressing a range from anger and sadness to excitement and joy, acknowledging the journey toward self-discovery and resilience.
