Elon Musk Denies $45 Million Monthly Donation to Trump PAC, Clarifies Support
Billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk has refuted claims that he is donating $45 million monthly to a super PAC supporting former President Donald Trump before the November election.
In an interview with conservative commentator Jordan Peterson, Musk stated, “What’s been reported in the media is simply not true. I am not donating $45 million a month to Trump.” The denial follows a report by The Wall Street Journal suggesting that Musk was planning to make substantial monthly contributions to America PAC, an organization aimed at mobilizing voters and countering Democratic turnout efforts.
Trump referenced the report during a campaign rally, expressing surprise at the claim. “He didn’t even tell me about it,” Trump remarked.
Musk clarified on Tuesday that while he does plan to contribute to America PAC, the amount will be significantly lower than the $45 million figure reported. He emphasized that the PAC supports principles of meritocracy and individual freedom, values he associates with the Republican Party. However, he does not identify as a staunch supporter of Trump’s “Make America Great Again” (MAGA) campaign. “I think America is great. I’m more about making America greater,” Musk explained.
The tech mogul also mentioned that he helped establish America PAC to promote core American principles rather than to engage in hyperpartisan politics. His support for Trump, he noted, stems from shared values on meritocracy and freedom, not a “cult of personality.”
Despite previously stating in March that he would not donate to either Trump or President Joe Biden’s campaigns, Musk has endorsed Trump following a recent assassination attempt on the former president. Musk expressed support for Trump’s recovery and has been critical of the Biden administration on social media.
Musk has also contributed $100,000 to a GoFundMe page set up to aid victims of the shooting at Trump’s rally, where one person was killed and two others were injured. Musk’s recent public statements and donations reflect his ongoing engagement with Trump’s political activities and his criticism of the current administration.
