Elon Musk has begun retracting parts of his social media tirade against Donald Trump, signaling a potential reversal after their once-powerful alliance fell apart in spectacular public fashion.
The Tesla and SpaceX CEO, who recently poured over $260 million into Republican causes supporting Trump’s 2024 re-election, admitted Monday morning that he regrets “some” of his inflammatory posts. But he stopped short of naming which ones.
“I regret some of my posts about the president this week. They went too far,” Musk wrote on X, the platform he owns.
From Political Partners to Public Enemies
The tension between the two influential figures, long viewed as ideological allies in tech and business circles, exploded into open warfare last week.
Musk accused Trump of being featured in secret government files related to Jeffrey Epstein — a bombshell claim that reinvigorated long-running conspiracy theories surrounding the disgraced financier and his alleged connections to global elites.
Although Musk’s posts gained viral traction, they also sparked legal and political concerns. Sources close to the billionaire now say he has begun to cool off and may be exploring a path to reconciliation.
Among the now-deleted posts was one calling for Trump’s impeachment, and another explicitly tying the former president to Epstein’s alleged network of powerful associates.
White House Fires Back, Dismisses Musk’s Claims
The Biden administration, speaking on behalf of the current administration, quickly rebuffed Musk’s Epstein-related allegations.
“This is an unfortunate episode from Elon, who is unhappy with the One Big Beautiful Bill because it does not include the policies he wanted,” said White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt.
She added that the president remains focused on “passing this historic piece of legislation and making our country great again,” referring to the sweeping Republican-led tax and spending bill that Musk had publicly criticized for weeks.
Trump: Relationship Over — For Now
Trump initially responded to Musk’s outburst with characteristic bluster, accusing the billionaire of having “lost his mind” and even hinting at revoking federal contracts from Musk-led companies.
However, in a softer tone over the weekend, Trump told reporters he wouldn’t object if Musk reached out in good faith.
“I’d have no problem if Elon called to wish me well,” Trump said. “We had a great relationship once.”
What Sparked the Meltdown?
Insiders suggest that Musk’s fury stemmed in part from the final version of the One Big Beautiful Bill, which omitted several policy initiatives he had lobbied for — including tax credits for advanced robotics, Mars colonization incentives, and federal support for Neuralink’s controversial brain-interface tech.
Musk had privately expressed disappointment that his ideas were excluded despite his substantial financial support of Republican campaigns. That discontent, sources say, reached a boiling point after the White House withdrew Jared Isaacman’s nomination to lead NASA — a move widely seen as a personal snub to Musk.
Repair or Rupture? What Comes Next
While Musk’s public expression of regret signals a de-escalation, political observers caution that the billionaire has not fully walked back his most damaging claims. No public apology has been issued, and the deleted posts have not been formally addressed by Musk or his legal team.
For now, the future of the Musk-Trump relationship hangs in limbo.
If tensions continue to thaw, it’s possible the two men — each with an outsized influence on America’s political and technological future — may yet find common ground. But after a week of personal attacks and high-stakes accusations, the path to reconciliation is anything but certain.
