Dublin Teen’s Journey: From Cherry Orchard Streets to the Silver Screen
From the streets of Cherry Orchard to the silver screen, 16-year-old Dubliner Alex Grendon’s acting journey unfolds, spurred by encouragement from youth workers in his hometown.
Growing up in Cherry Orchard, Ballyfermot, Alex’s talent caught the eye of youth workers who saw his potential in acting, leading him to audition for the coming-of-age film “Ready Or Not” penned by Dublin Senator Lynn Ruane.
In the film set in 1990s Dublin, Alex takes on the lead male role, navigating the complexities of adolescence alongside his peers under the direction of Claire Byrne and producer Ruth Coady.
Reflecting on his journey, Alex recalls how his interest in acting was initially sparked by feedback from youth workers who recognised his potential, igniting a newfound passion that led him away from the streets and into auditions.
Despite never attending formal acting classes, Alex’s natural talent and ability to immerse himself in characters caught the attention of casting agents, paving the way for his breakout role in “Ready Or Not.”
Thriving on the set, Alex found himself captivated by the experience of working alongside talented professionals and making lasting connections within the industry.
Grateful for his support and belief, Alex credits his manager, Paul Richie of Hour Hearts Productions, for guiding him along his acting journey and instilling confidence in his abilities.
Inspired by actors like Chris Evans and Cillian Murphy, Alex aspires to emulate their success while carving out his path in acting.
With two more films on the horizon, including “Blind Man’s Bluff,” Alex’s burgeoning career continues to gain momentum, promising more opportunities to showcase his talent on the big screen.
Paul Richie, Alex’s manager, shares how he came across Alex during workshops to engage at-risk teenagers from Cherry Orchard and Ballyfermot, eventually leading to his discovery and casting in “Ready Or Not.”
Despite initial setbacks, including expulsion from school, Alex’s resilience and talent shone through, earning him roles in HSE ads and other projects tackling social issues.
Thanks to a stroke of luck and perseverance, Alex landed the lead role in “Ready Or Not,” a testament to his talent and the belief placed in him by casting agents and mentors.
Set to debut in “Ready Or Not” this May, Alex’s journey from the streets of Cherry Orchard to the silver screen is an inspiring testament to the transformative power of opportunity and belief in one’s abilities.
