Dublin authorities have made a significant breakthrough in their efforts to combat drug trafficking, with the arrest of a man in his 50s and the seizure of drugs worth over €3.2 million.

The incident unfolded during a routine search on the M50 motorway in the capital, marking a significant milestone in law enforcement’s ongoing battle against illicit drug activities.

Yesterday, at around 5 pm, law enforcement agencies intercepted a vehicle carrying over 162kg of herbal cannabis. This incident highlights the vigilance and proactive measures taken by authorities to tackle drug-related crimes. The discovery of such a large amount of illegal drugs underscores the scale of the operation and the magnitude of the illicit drug trade in the region.

As part of Operation Tara, which aims to disrupt and dismantle organised crime networks involved in drug trafficking, law enforcement agencies carried out a successful operation that led to the seizure of a substantial quantity of drugs. This achievement highlights the effectiveness of coordinated efforts between law enforcement agencies in combating drug-related offences.

Following the seizure, the confiscated drugs have been sent to Forensic Science Ireland for thorough analysis and investigation. This crucial step will provide valuable insights into the seized drugs’ origin, composition, and potential distribution network, further aiding law enforcement efforts in dismantling criminal networks.

The arrested individual, believed to be a key player in the illicit drug trade, is currently in custody at a Garda station in north Dublin. The apprehension of this individual represents a significant blow to drug trafficking operations in the region and serves as a stern warning to those involved in such illegal activities.
