A drone was launched toward the home of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in Caesarea, northern Israel, marking the first known assassination attempt on the leader.

According to his spokesman, neither Netanyahu nor his wife was at the residence at the time of the attack.

The Israeli military confirmed that the drone originated from Lebanon and struck a building, although the exact target remains unclear.

Two more drones that entered Israeli airspace were intercepted. No injuries were reported, though explosions were heard in the vicinity, as confirmed by local police and ambulance services.

Hezbollah, which has been exchanging fire with Israel since October, has not claimed responsibility for the attack, nor has any other organization.

This incident follows heightened tensions in the region. Just last month, Israeli authorities arrested a citizen suspected of collaborating with Iran in a plot to assassinate Netanyahu and other high-ranking officials.

The suspect allegedly travelled to Iran twice, where he was paid for missions aimed at Israeli targets.

In a joint statement, Israeli police and intelligence services revealed that the suspect, a businessman, had lived in Turkey and was assisted by Turkish contacts to gain access to Iran. The revelations of this plot have intensified fears of further attacks.

The drone attack comes amid rising conflict in the region. Recently, Iran escalated tensions by firing 180 rockets into Israel, prompting Netanyahu to issue a stern warning.

“Iran has made a big mistake, and it will pay for it,” Netanyahu said, adding that Israel remains determined to defend itself and respond to threats from its enemies.

Since early October, Hezbollah has launched over 8,000 rockets into Israel in support of Gaza-based Hamas.

In retaliation, Israeli forces have continued their airstrikes, with recent reports indicating that Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar, who orchestrated the October 7 attack that killed 1,200 people in Israel, was killed in Gaza. Israeli media published images allegedly showing Sinwar’s body, though official confirmation remains pending.

Sinwar, who had led Hamas in Gaza since 2017, was a crucial figure in the group, having joined its ranks in the 1980s.

Israeli airstrikes have also killed several Hezbollah leaders and injured thousands of its members. The ongoing conflict has displaced approximately 90,000 people due to the intensity of the Israeli strikes.
