Dozens of Hezbollah members have been seriously injured following a series of explosions triggered by pagers used for communication.

The blasts, which co-occurred in southern Lebanon, the southern suburbs of Beirut, and the Syrian town of Set Zaynab, have resulted in over 1,000 injuries.

A Hezbollah official, who requested anonymity, described the incident as the “biggest security breach” the group has faced during nearly a year of conflict with Israel.

Among the injured is Iran’s ambassador to Lebanon, Mojtaba Amani, who has been hospitalised with non-life-threatening injuries, according to Iran’s Mehr news agency.

In response to the attacks, Lebanon’s Health Ministry has urged hospitals to prepare for an influx of casualties and has advised citizens to dispose of pagers immediately.

The explosions, captured in CCTV footage circulating on social media, occurred at various locations, including a supermarket and a fruit and vegetable market.

In one distressing video, a man’s backpack explodes in a market, with shoppers fleeing as he is left motionless on the ground.

Ambulances have been dispatched to the affected areas, and hospitals are reporting a range of injuries, including severe hand and eye wounds.

At Mt. Lebanon Hospital, a Reuters reporter witnessed frantic scenes as motorcycles rushed in with injured individuals. The head of Nabatieh Public Hospital, Hassan Wazni, reported treating around 40 wounded patients.

The explosions lasted about an hour and began at approximately 3:45 p.m. local time (1345 GMT). The exact method of detonation remains unclear. The attack has been attributed to a hacking operation by Mossad, Israel’s national intelligence agency.

However, there has been no immediate comment from the Israeli military, which has been engaged in ongoing conflict with Hezbollah and Gaza since last October.
