The incoming president revealed that Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates had requested to visit his Mar-a-Lago estate. Still, the message contained curious phrases that some believe may have been explicitly aimed at tech mogul Elon Musk.
Trump’s post read: “Where are you? When are you visiting the ‘Center of the Universe,’ Mar-a-Lago? Bill Gates asked to come tonight. We miss you and x! New Year’s Eve is going to be AMAZING!!! DJT.”
The post’s informal tone and personal references left many wondering if the message was intended for Musk, Trump’s close confidant.
The phrase “We miss you and x!” raised eyebrows, with “x” being a known reference to Musk’s son, X Æ A-Xii. Musk, who is often seen with his son at public events, including Capitol Hill meetings, has frequently attended Trump’s gatherings, including his 2024 election watch party at Mar-a-Lago.
The message also comes from Trump’s legendary New Year’s Eve parties, which he’s held at his Palm Beach estate in previous years.
Speculation has been rife that Musk, a frequent guest at Mar-a-Lago, may be expected to attend the upcoming celebration, with Trump alluding to an “AMAZING” event.
Gates’ press team did not immediately respond to inquiries about whether he had requested a meeting with Trump, and Trump’s team did not elaborate on the post.
Gates and Trump met before, notably in 2016, and Gates occasionally voiced support for Trump, including remarks in 2021 about the former president being allowed back on Twitter after his ban.
The cryptic nature of Trump’s post has drawn comparisons to his infamous “covfefe” tweet from 2017, which left the internet buzzing with questions about its meaning after it was deleted.
At the time, White House press secretary Sean Spicer hinted that only a small group of people understood the true meaning behind the word, though its purpose was never clarified.
