Donald Trump was swiftly escorted to safety by the Secret Service on Sunday afternoon after agents spotted a man armed with an AK-47 near Trump International Golf Course in West Palm Beach, Florida. The incident occurred around 2 p.m. while Trump was golfing at the course.
According to law enforcement sources, an advance team spotted the gunman several holes ahead of Trump. It remains unclear whether the man was on the course itself or in the surrounding area. An agent fired multiple shots at the suspect, who was later apprehended by local police on I-95.
Trump’s spokesman, Steven Cheung, confirmed, “President Trump is safe following gunshots in his vicinity. No further details at this time.” The suspect’s motives are currently unknown, and the investigation is ongoing.
The incident comes just two months after Thomas Matthew Crooks shot Trump at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, on July 13, injuring him in the ear.
Senator Lindsey Graham expressed support for Trump shortly after news of the incident broke, praising his resilience. “Just spoke with President Trump.
He is one of the strongest people I’ve ever known. He’s in good spirits and is more resolved than ever to save our country,” Graham said.
The Secret Service, which faced significant criticism following the July shooting attempt, reported the situation as a “protective incident” and is working with the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office on the investigation. Initial reports suggested that two people might have been involved in the shooting, but it is now believed that the Secret Service agent was the sole shooter.
The White House issued a statement confirming that both President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris were briefed on the security incident. They expressed relief that Trump is safe and will continue to receive updates on the situation.
