Donald Trump now leads in 5 crucial swing states, all of which were won by Joe Biden in 2020
Former President Donald Trump is leading President Biden in five key swing states that Biden won in 2020, according to recent polls from the New York Times, Siena College, and the Philadelphia Inquirer. Among Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, and Pennsylvania voters, Trump has garnered more significant support than Biden. Conversely, Biden is leading in just one battleground state, Wisconsin.
The results of the polls indicate that if Biden manages to secure victories in Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin in 2024, he would be able to secure his re-election, provided he does not lose any of the states he won in the previous election. The polls have highlighted various issues, such as the cost of living, the economy, the Israel-Hamas conflict, and immigration, which have led to widespread dissatisfaction among Americans and raised concerns about Biden’s ability to enhance their quality of life.
A significant number of voters, nearly 70 per cent, believe that the country’s political and economic systems require a considerable overhaul. Only 13 per cent of Biden’s supporters are confident he can bring such changes in a potential second term. Additionally, around 40 per cent of Trump supporters consider the economy and cost of living the most crucial issues in the election, expressing doubts about the Biden administration’s claims of economic improvement.
Despite their reservations about Trump, many polled voters acknowledge that he could be the candidate to drive the much-needed change. Trump and Biden are currently tied among 18- to 29-year-olds and Hispanic voters, even though over 60 per cent of this demographic voted for Biden in the previous election. Trump has also managed to secure 20 per cent of black voters’ support, marking the highest level of black support for any Republican presidential candidate since the C.
The growing popularity of the former president among young and nonwhite voters has reshaped the electoral landscape, positioning him ahead in more diverse states like Arizona, Georgia, and Nevada, where Biden had previously found success.
The results of the surveys also indicate that a significant portion, nearly 20 per cent, of voters, hold Biden more accountable than Trump for the Supreme Court’s decision in 2022 to overturn Roe v. Wade. This surprising statistic is likely to compel the president to make efforts to rebuild trust among this particular group of voters.
However, when it comes to handling the issue of abortion, voters still prefer Biden over Trump by a margin of 11 points, with 49 per cent favouring Biden and 38 per cent favouring Trump.
On the other hand, Trump is performing well in the polls among voters who believe that the political and economic systems need to be dismantled. This includes 2 per cent of “very liberal” voters who had voted for Biden in 2020, as indicated by the polls.
Furthermore, approximately 13 per cent of voters who had voted for Biden in 2020 but did not intend to do so again stated that his foreign policy regarding the war in Gaza was their most important concern. Among these voters, about 17 per cent expressed sympathy towards Israel.
The polls were conducted between April 28 and May 9, surveying 4,097 registered voters in Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin.
