Former President Donald Trump has thrown his support behind Lara Trump, his daughter-in-law, for the co-chair position at the Republican National Committee (RNC) after Ronna McDaniel resigned as Chairperson. Trump also suggested Michael Whatley, the RNC’s general counsel and Chairman of the North Carolina Republican Party, to serve as co-chair alongside Lara Trump, who is married to Eric Trump.

In his endorsement, Trump emphasized the crucial role of the RNC in ensuring fair and transparent elections across the nation, particularly in the upcoming presidential election.

Reactions to the Endorsement

Michael Cohen, a former attorney for Trump and the Trump Organization and a former deputy finance chairman of the RNC, expressed dissent regarding Lara Trump’s endorsement on the podcast Political Breakdown. Cohen labelled Lara as “an idiot,” citing his belief that Trump held reservations about her for many years and initially disapproved of her marriage to Eric Trump.

Lara Trump’s Background

Before tying the knot with Eric Trump in 2014, Lara (formerly Yunaska) Trump worked as a story coordinator and producer for the TV news magazine Inside Edition. Presently, she hosts The Right View podcast, where she delves into political discourse, lauds her father-in-law, and criticizes Democratic policies.

Upcoming Changes in RNC Leadership

Ronna McDaniel has indicated her intention to retain her position until after the South Carolina primary on February 24. Following her resignation, an election will be convened to select the new RNC co-chair. The subsequent RNC membership meeting is slated for later this spring.
