The Justice Department (DOJ) has revealed the existence of 117 pages of transcribed discussions between President Joe Biden and his ghostwriter, Mark Zwonitzer.

This information came to light during a lawsuit compelling the department to release records related to Special Counsel Robert Hur’s investigation into Biden’s handling of classified documents before his presidency.

The disclosure was made by the Oversight Project, a conservative government transparency watchdog that sued the DOJ to obtain the records. According to Kyle Brosnan, counsel for the watchdog group, the DOJ informed the court of the discovery just before the Oversight ProjecProject’shearing on the matter.

Brosnan stated, “There” do exist written transcripts of President Biden’Biden’sviews with his ghostwriter where they discuss classified material, and that Special Counsel Hur relied upon those written transcripts in coming to his conclusions [that Biden was a ‘well-‘eaning elderly man with a poor memory’].”

The transcripts pertain to Biden’Biden’smemoir “Promi” e Me, Dad” and are flagged by Justice Department officials after plaintiff Mike Howell of the Oversight Project questioned the department’s assertions that Hur’s Hur’se did not have verbatim transcripts of any recordings between Biden and Zwonitzer.

These transcripts are a subset of recordings between the president and his ghostwriter, a discovery that has prompted ongoing negotiations about handling the newly unearthed materials. Brosnan noted that over 70 hours of tapes between Biden and Zwonitzer, a substantial volume of material, could take the DOJ significant time to process.

The lawsuit involves the Biden administration’s assertion of executive privilege over certain tapes. Former Attorney General Michael Mukasey, who served under President George W. Bush, has challenged the administration’s claim. In a June court filing, Mukasey stated that the assertion of executive privilege “goes well beyond the limits of any prior assertion and is not supported by the 2008 executive privilege letter.”

The Justice Department has declined to comment on the matter. The case is ongoing, with the Oversight Project advocating for full transparency and releasing the documents.
