According to royal author Robert Hardman, Prince Harry’s strained relationship with Prince William has suffered a significant blow in the Netflix miniseries “Harry & Meghan,” shedding light on Harry’s critique of William’s choice to marry Kate Middleton.
In his new book, “The Making of a King: King Charles III and the Modern Monarchy,” Hardman expressed his view that Harry’s comments about marrying for love rather than societal expectations were particularly hurtful, as it essentially criticized his brother’s marital decision in a very public manner.
In the miniseries’ first episode, the Duke of Sussex emphasizes the contrast between choosing a partner based on societal norms versus following one’s heart, drawing inspiration from his mother, Diana.
Hardman also highlighted the damage inflicted on the brothers’ bond by Harry’s detailed revelations about their childhood and relationship in his blockbuster 2023 memoir, “Spare.” The book delves into the rift between the siblings, including an altercation at Eton College related to Harry’s wife, Meghan Markle.
Despite the brothers’ historically guarded privacy, Harry’s decision to make private family matters public has strained their relationship further. In “Spare,” Harry recounts a physical altercation with William, detailing how he was knocked to the floor during an argument, leaving him with a visible back injury.
The memoir also alleges tension between William’s wife, Kate Middleton, and Meghan Markle, including disputes over attire and personal clashes.
Royal commentator Omid Scobie revealed that direct communication between the brothers has been almost nonexistent since late 2019, and Middleton seems uninterested in repairing the fractured relationships.
The miniseries and memoir revelations have laid bare the personal struggles within the royal family, highlighting the complexities and tensions that have strained the bonds between Prince Harry, Prince William, and their respective spouses.
