Cristiano Ronaldo reacts to ‘Messi’ chants with lewd gesture towards taunting supporters
Cristiano Ronaldo, the forward of the Al-Nassr team, has been criticized for making an offensive gesture towards rival fans chanting the name of his arch-enemy, Lionel Messi.
The Portuguese star, who scored a penalty in Al-Nassr’s 3-2 win over Al-Shabab in the Saudi league on Sunday, was seen cupping his ear and pumping his hand in front of his groin as he left the pitch.
The gesture responded to the Al-Shabab supporters who shouted “Messi, Messi, Messi!” at him. Messi, the PSG legend, is widely considered the best player in the world and has often been compared.
The Saudi Football Federation (SAFF) reportedly investigates Ronaldo’s conduct and could impose sanctions on him. Some Saudi media outlets and pundits have criticized Ronaldo’s behaviour and called for more respect and professionalism from the 39-year-old.
This is not the first time that Ronaldo has caused controversy in the Saudi league. He has previously been accused of grabbing his crotch and shoving a scarf down his pants after being taunted by Messi’s fans.
