A mother who spent over £600 on tickets for herself and her seven-year-old son to attend a Pink concert at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium has accused venue staff of treating them “like criminals” because her son couldn’t sit still.

Vanessa Vasey, 48, took her son Jesse, who has Down’s Syndrome and sensory disorders, to see his favourite singer, Pink, over the weekend.

However, Jesse struggled to remain seated during the concert. Ms Vasey had prepared for this by bringing her friend Kirsty to stand near the seating area while Jesse danced.

Shortly before Pink took the stage, they were approached by a group of security guards who instructed them to return to their seats. Ms Vasey explained Jesse’s situation but claimed she was told to sit down or leave the concert. As the situation escalated, four additional security guards arrived and escorted them out of the venue just as Pink began her performance.

Recalling the incident to The Mail, Ms Vasey expressed disappointment, stating, “We couldn’t wait as it was going to be such a special moment for us to experience together.” She explained that Jesse didn’t want to sit in their assigned seats and opted to stand near them, dancing.

“We weren’t causing any problems – Jesse is 3 feet tall and was entertaining everyone,” Ms. Vasey added. “Then six security guards showed up telling us we had to move.” Despite explaining Jesse’s disabilities, she said they were given an ultimatum to comply with venue rules or leave.

According to Ms Vasey, stadium staff suggested they use the soundproof sensory room, but she was concerned Jesse would miss out on experiencing the concert live. “All Jesse has now is memories of me crying, being upset and angry and the whole intimidation and people being unkind to us,” she said emotionally.

Ms Vasey had purchased premium tickets with lounge access to accommodate Jesse’s need to move around freely. She wanted venue staff to receive better training in supporting attendees with diverse needs.

In response to the incident, a spokesperson for Tottenham Hotspur Stadium conveyed regret over the reported experience and stated, “We are aware of the complaint that has been posted on Facebook.” They emphasized the venue’s commitment to inclusivity.

They explained that Ms Vasey had been offered assistance throughout the night, including access to a dedicated Sensory Room, which she declined before deciding to leave.

“While our records show Ms. Vasey purchased her tickets through Ticketmaster, we shall contact Ms. Vasey directly,” the spokesperson added, underscoring their priority on the safety and well-being of all event attendees.
