CCTV Footage Reveals TV Doctor Michael Mosley’s Fall Near Body Discovery Site
Dr. Michael Mosley, renowned for his TV appearances and popularization of the 5:2 diet, was found dead on the Greek island of Symi, with CCTV footage suggesting he fell close to where his body was discovered.
His widow, Dr. Clare Bailey Mosley, confirm the tragic news, describing the loss as “devastating.”
Reports indicate that footage from a beach bar at Agia Marina shows what appears to be Dr. Mosley descending a rocky slope near a fence before falling out of view. Dr. Mosley, 67, went missing after leaving his wife and friends at Agios Nikolaos beach last Wednesday. His widow believes he undertook an “incredible climb, took the wrong route, and collapsed where he couldn’t be easily seen” by search teams.
An initial examination by a coroner ruled out foul play, but further tests are to be conducted in Rhodes to confirm the cause of death. The CCTV footage shows Dr. Mosley making his way down a slope and falling out of view at 3:44 pm on Wednesday, over two hours after leaving the restaurant.
A spokesman for the coroner stated, “It looks like it was a fall, but we need to establish whether he had a medical episode before that, and it will take time.” Dr. Mosley was last seen making his way to the center of the island before he disappeared.
Dr. Bailey Mosley paid tribute to her “kind and brilliant husband,” who was found near a rocky area close to Agia Marina beach. She expressed her sorrow, saying, “It’s devastating to have lost Michael, my wonderful, funny, kind, and brilliant husband. We had an incredibly lucky life together and were very happy.”
Dr. Mosley was a beloved figure known for his work on “The One Show” and “This Morning.” His adventurous spirit was part of what made him special. Dr. Bailey Mosley highlighted that her husband had “very nearly made it” and that he collapsed where he couldn’t be easily seen by search teams.
The couple’s children – Alex, Jack, Dan, and Kate – were just 350 feet away from where his body was found when they retraced his steps. Local authorities and volunteers on Symi worked tirelessly to locate Dr. Mosley, and his family expressed deep gratitude for their efforts.
Police confirmed the identity of Dr. Mosley through his personal items and clothing. Senior police official Petros Vassilakis stated, “It’s him,” while a police spokesperson added, “There was no question the man was Dr. Mosley.”
The body was discovered near a cave by a hospitality worker and British journalists, with a coroner examining the remains at the site before transferring them to Rhodes. A police source told the BBC that the deceased had been dead “for a number of days.”
Dr. Bailey Mosley concluded her tribute, saying, “I feel so lucky to have had this life with Michael. Thank you all.” The family has been overwhelmed by the outpouring of love and support from around the world.
