Arsenal continued their impressive form in 2024 with a 5-0 demolition of Burnley at Turf Moor on Saturday, breaking several club records in the process.
The Gunners scored five or more goals in consecutive away games for the first time in Premier League history. They are two points behind league leaders Liverpool, having thrashed West Ham 6-0 in their previous game.
They also scored their 24th set-piece goal of the season, surpassing their previous record of 23 set in 2004/05, thanks to a penalty converted by Bukayo Saka in the first half.
Saka, named man of the match, added another goal in the second half to complete a brace, while Martin Odegaard, Leandro Trossard and Kai Havertz also got on the scoresheet.
The England international, one of Arsenal’s standout performers this season, praised his team-mates for their dominant display.
“We are playing with a lot of confidence and enjoying our football,” he told Match of the Day. “We have a great team spirit and work hard for each other. We want to keep this momentum going and challenge for the title.”
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta was also delighted with his side’s performance, especially their set-piece prowess.
“We have been working a lot on set pieces, both offensively and defensively, and we are seeing the results,” he said. “We have players who can deliver quality balls and players who can attack them. It’s an essential part of the game, and we are happy to exploit it.”
Arsenal will face a more challenging test in their next game, as they travel to Portugal to face Porto in Tuesday’s Champions League round of 16 first leg.
