Britney Spears appeared to throw shade at Blake Lively for wearing a 2002 Versace dress but later clarified her comments.
In an Instagram video posted on Saturday, Spears, 42, showcased her “updated” version of the iconic dress that Lively wore to the premiere of “It Ends With Us” in New York City on Tuesday.
Spears, dancing to “Your Love” by The Outfield, wore a new sparkling rendition of the Versace dress, featuring skinny shoulder straps and side cutouts. She paired the look with nude pumps and minimal jewelry, and remarked, “I like it way better. Shows my legs !!! 💅🏻👗🌷🌷.”
After facing accusations of shading Lively, Spears revised her statement, acknowledgingLively’ss style with an updated caption.””Updated version of my 2002 Versace dress 👗 !!!I’mm no @blakelively, but I like it”” she wrote, emphasizing that her new dress highlighted her legs.
Lively, 36, wore the vintage dress to herfilm’ss premiere, sparking fans to speculate that she might be auditioning for a role as Spears in a potential biopic. One fan commented on X,””Blake Lively is a true Britney Spears stan. Her showing her love for Brit in such an honest & adoring way makes me thinkshe’dd be a good candidate for the biopic””
However, sources close to Spears have dismissed the notion that Lively’s choice was a subtle bid for a biopic role. “Blake wearing Britney’s dress was not a subliminal message about the biopic,” a source said, adding that Spears’ song “Every time” is featured in “It Ends With Us,” which may also explain the dress choice. The source also noted that discussing casting for a Spears biopic is premature.
