Britney Spears has announced that she will never return to the music industry, despite her team assembling songwriters for what would be her 10th album.

In a recent Instagram post, the superstar clarified that most news about her alleged return to music is “trash” and that she will never return to the music industry.

The “Toxic” singer also revealed that she has written over 20 songs for other people during the past two years and enjoys being a ghostwriter. While her team is assembling writers to work on her next album, Spears seems acutely uninterested in ever stepping behind a studio mic again.

The pop icon’s declaration comes after Page Six reported that Charli XCX and Julia Michaels were tapped to pen songs for the next instalment in the Grammy winner’s discography.

Rolling Stone subsequently confirmed Page Six’s reporting about Charli and Michaels signing on to contribute. According to the outlet, producer Cirkut and songwriter, Jason Evigan are also on board. Despite her disinterest, spears’ management and A&R are reportedly trying to get her excited about the music. As of now, she’s not actively recording, but they’re getting songs done to present to her. Nothing is cemented or in stone.

Spears’ last album, “Glory,” was released in 2016 during her conservatorship. The restrictive legal arrangement was established in 2008 by her estranged father, Jamie Spears, to control her financial, professional, personal and medical affairs. It was eventually terminated in November 2021. On the other side of her conservatorship, Britney has dropped two singles: “Hold Me Closer,” a 2022 duet with Elton John, and “Mind Your Business,” a collaboration with Will.i.am that was initially recorded for her 2013 album, “Britney Jean,” but released in 2023.

In her book, “The Woman In Me,” Britney detailed the experience of recording “Hold Me Closer” as a free woman. She noted that making new music is not at the top of her to-do list, and pushing forward in her music career is not her current focus. Instead, she wants to get her spiritual life in order, pay attention to the little things and slow down. It’s time for her not to be someone other people want but to actually find herself.
