A British woman was tragically killed in front of her family while on vacation in Greece, according to reports.
The 47-year-old was walking in the town of Chania, Crete, when a car lost control and struck her and her 54-year-old sister-in-law.
The driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle, which then ploughed into the two women. The victim suffered a severe head injury and was rushed to a hospital in Rethymno. Despite efforts to save her, she died a few hours later. Her sister-in-law survived but sustained severe abrasions to her arms and legs, according to the Sun.
The accident occurred around 7:30 PM on Friday. The Hellenic Police are currently investigating the incident. Images from the scene show the damaged silver Peugeot resting next to an olive tree in a field.
The name of the victim has not yet been released.
This incident is the latest in a series of accidents involving British tourists in Greece. Recently, a young man died after falling from a hotel balcony on the island of Zante. Another British tourist fell from a first-floor balcony just hours earlier.
Crete, the largest of the Greek islands, remains a popular destination for British tourists. According to Statista, over 800,000 visitors from the UK traveled to Greece in 2023, second only to visitors from Germany.
