A 66-year-old British tourist has died after collapsing in the sea on the Greek island of Skiathos during extreme temperatures.
The woman, who was staying at a nearby hotel, went swimming at Achladies beach yesterday afternoon. According to CNN Greece, she lost consciousness, likely due to the intense heat.
A lifeguard retrieved her from the water and performed CPR with the help of a private doctor.
Despite being transported to the Skiathos Health Centre by ambulance, she was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
Temperatures in Skiathos reached 33°C on Friday, prompting the national meteorological service to issue a heat warning.
Greek authorities have advised tourists to exercise caution, with government spokesman Pavlos Marinakis emphasizing the high risk of wildfires.
This incident follows a series of recent tragedies involving British tourists in Greece, including a 47-year-old woman hit by a car in Crete and a 23-year-old man who fell from a balcony in Zante.
Earlier this month, a tourist died while diving near Thessaloniki.
The deceased woman’s body is expected to be transferred to Volos for an autopsy.
