Zakynthos, Greece – A 23-year-old British man has died after losing his balance and falling from a hotel balcony on the Greek island of Zakynthos, commonly known as Zante.
The tragic incident occurred at approximately 3 p.m. on Wednesday at a beach resort in Laganas.
The man reportedly attempted to get off the balcony by stepping onto the handrail, at which point he lost his balance and fell head-first from a height of about 1.5 meters.
Local media outlet Parapolitika reported that the victim attempted to stand up twice after the fall but was unable to and kept collapsing.
He was subsequently transported to Zakynthos Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
In a separate incident on the same day, another British tourist fell from the first-floor balcony of a different hotel on the island. This individual was also taken to Zakynthos Hospital with serious injuries and has been intubated.
Authorities have stated that the two incidents, while occurring within hours of each other, are unrelated. They took place at different hotels, and no third party is believed to be involved. The Zakynthos Police Department is conducting investigations into both accidents.
