A British tourist has allegedly been raped at a spa resort in Milan.
The woman, 29, claims to have been sexually assaulted by a 25-year-old man with distinctive tattoos while staying at the Terme di Milano spa in the middle of the Italian city. p
She was approached by the man while relaxing at the spa with a friend on Monday night, local media reports. The two had met each other previously and had consumed alcohol together.
According to Italian newspaper Il Giorno, the suspect invited the woman to follow him into the men’s changing room at around 10 pm but soon turned violent and raped her when they were alone.
But her screams for help attracted her friend’s attention, causing the man to flee.
The victim reported the incident to Italian police, who were alerted after she returned to her hotel room at around 11 pm.
Police said they had identified the man by sifting through footage from the surveillance cameras in the area, but he had reportedly not been arrested.
The CCTV footage from the spa showed that the woman followed her alleged attacker into the changing room and then into a bathroom ‘without opposition’, Italian newspaper Corriere Milano reports.
But the 29-year-old woman told investigators that she was ‘too drunk’ to resist and give consent to the sexual act.
Local prosecutors ordered police to seize the clothes of the British woman for testing after she was taken to hospital to collect evidence immediately following the alleged assault.
The woman is said to have returned to England on Tuesday, a day after the alleged incident at the Terme di Milano.
