British Tourist, 72, Dies in Suspected Drowning on Spain’s Costa Blanca
A 72-year-old British holidaymaker has tragically died in a suspected drowning incident in Guardamar del Segura, located on Spain’s Costa Blanca.
The man was pulled from the water unconscious around 3:30 p.m. after what is suspected to be a heart attack. Authorities believe he may have suffered a health issue prior to drowning.
At the time of the incident, weather conditions were favorable and the sea was calm. Lifeguards will continue to monitor the area until October 15, as strong currents are known to affect the beaches. Signs in both English and Spanish have been placed by the local council, warning bathers about the dangerous ocean currents.
This latest tragedy brings the number of fatalities at the beach this year to seven. Among previous incidents was the death of Bryn Thomas, a 52-year-old from Southampton, who lost his life in June at La Roqueta beach while attempting to save two children in distress. He died alongside a 46-year-old Polish man, who also tried to assist the children.
Earlier that same month, four people died at La Roqueta beach within a 48-hour period, including a 68-year-old Israeli and a German national.
Additionally, it was revealed that another British man was found dead off the coast of Majorca on Tuesday afternoon. His body was recovered near the Malgrats Islands, a short distance from the holiday resort of Magaluf.
