A prison officer is set to appear in court after allegedly engaging in inappropriate relationships with inmates and smuggling contraband.
Charlotte Winstanley, 27, is accused of bringing a mobile phone into HMP Lindholme, a category C prison, for one prisoner. She also reportedly conspired with 29-year-old inmate Jabhari Blair, who is serving a 12-year sentence for stabbing two men, to smuggle mobile phone memory cards into the facility in 2022.
According to reports, Winstanley has indicated guilty pleas to charges of misconduct in a public office covering three months in 2022. The allegations state that she “entered into inappropriate relationships with inmates and conveyed contraband to inmates.”

In a separate incident, Winstanley was also found to have taken a photograph inside HMP Ranby in Nottinghamshire in 2023, an act that could form part of the charges against her.
Winstanley, from Stainforth, will appear before Sheffield Crown Court next month for a plea and trial preparation hearing.
The case highlights ongoing concerns over prison security and the conduct of staff within the UK’s prison system.
