British Paralympian Jodie Grinham has achieved an extraordinary feat by winning a bronze medal at the Paris Paralympics while seven months pregnant.

Competing in the women’s individual compound archery event, Grinham secured her first individual Paralympic medal, making her the first openly pregnant woman to compete in the Paralympic Games.

The 31-year-old para-archer, known for her pink hair and born with no fingers and half a thumb on her left hand, was emotional after her victory.

She described the unique experience of competing while pregnant, noting, “Oh my gosh, the baby hasn’t stopped!” Grinham shared her concerns about how the baby’s movements might affect her performance but expressed that it has been a “little honour” to have her baby with her during this significant moment.

Despite challenges, including hospital visits, Grinham’s determination paid off as she beat her ParalympicsGB teammate and defending champion, Phoebe Paterson Pine, to claim the bronze.

Gold was awarded to Turkey’s Oznur Cure Girdi, with Iran’s Fatemeh Hemmati taking the silver.

Grinham is set to compete again in the mixed team compound event with Nathan MacQueen, hoping to add to her medal tally.
