An 87-year-old British man has been arrested in Greece on suspicion of attempting to murder his bedridden wife in their home in Paleo Faliro, a coastal suburb located four miles from central Athens.
According to reports from the Greek newspaper Proto Thema, the man allegedly tried to suffocate his 89-year-old wife with a pillow.
The incident occurred yesterday in the couple’s apartment in the seaside neighborhood, which is known for its parks, promenade, and luxury yachts docked in the harbor.
After the alleged attempt, the woman was transported to Tzaneio Hospital, situated across the harbor, for medical treatment. Her current condition remains unknown.
Local media outlets report that the elderly man has admitted to trying to kill his wife. He claims he acted at her request due to her long-standing health issues.
Believing his wife had died, the man then went to a friend’s apartment on another floor of the building to inform them of what had happened. The police were subsequently contacted and responded to the scene.
Paleo Faliro, the neighborhood where the incident took place, is home to approximately 65,000 residents and is a well-known seafront suburb of Athens.
