A British grandfather and renowned lighting engineer, who once worked with global music icons including Mick Jagger and Ed Sheeran, is facing attempted murder charges in Florida after allegedly trying to drown his daughter-in-law, with whom he is believed to have had a long-term secret relationship.

According to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, the incident occurred during a heated family dispute over a will. Gibbon allegedly pushed Wyld, 33, underwater and held her there repeatedly, despite her desperate attempts to escape.
Wyld’s nine-year-old daughter, who witnessed the attack, bravely leapt into the pool to intervene and help her mother. However, Gibbon reportedly shoved the child aside, continuing the assault on her mother before two other women stepped in and alerted authorities.
Investigators later confirmed that Wyld had to physically fight Gibbon to the surface, stating she “could not breathe” and genuinely believed she was about to drown. “He kept pushing her back under,” the arrest affidavit reads.

Revelations about the alleged motive behind the attack have surfaced, with claims that Gibbon and Wyld have been involved in a clandestine relationship for the past two years following the collapse of their respective marriages.
Daily Mail sources allege the relationship was kept under wraps due to the sensitive family dynamics, particularly involving Gibbon’s estranged son, Alex, who shares two children with Wyld.
Gibbon and Alex had previously worked together at a lighting company that boasted high-profile clients such as Kylie Minogue and Mick Jagger. The father and son are reportedly no longer on speaking terms.
A family insider described the situation as “an awful betrayal,” adding, “Alex feels utterly let down that his father would pursue a relationship with the mother of his children.”
The source claimed Gibbon and Wyld often travel together with the children and spend extended time at each other’s homes, with Wyld frequently seen in Beaconsfield. Though she maintains a residence of her own, she reportedly spends much of her time at Gibbon’s home.
“They’ve been on holidays together, including to Florida two years ago and to Budapest,” the source added. “She even posted photos online that made them look like a couple.”
The insider alleged the recent incident may have been triggered by financial disputes, particularly over Gibbon’s will. “I was told Jasmine was upset that she wasn’t included in the will despite the relationship,” the source said.
Witnesses interviewed by police said they saw Gibbon forcibly submerge Wyld multiple times and that he appeared enraged during the confrontation. One woman said she observed him scratching Wyld’s chest during the altercation.
Two bystanders eventually shouted at Gibbon that police had been called, which reportedly prompted him to stop the attack and allowed Wyld to escape from the pool.
The Polk County Sheriff’s Office responded promptly and took Gibbon into custody. He remains in detention pending further legal proceedings.

He added pointedly: “Because Mr. Gibbon couldn’t control his anger, he may find himself spending a lot more time in Florida than he had anticipated.”
Wyld is said to be recovering from the physical and emotional trauma and is cooperating fully with investigators as the legal case proceeds.

Gibbon’s legal team has yet to issue a public statement regarding the allegations. Meanwhile, the complex dynamics of the family’s relationship have fueled significant media attention on both sides of the Atlantic.
