São Paulo, Brazil – British journalist Charlotte Peet, 32, has been reported missing in Brazil, prompting calls from concerned colleagues for authorities to intensify search efforts.
Peet last made contact on February 8, messaging a friend in Rio de Janeiro to inform them she was in São Paulo and seeking accommodation in Rio. After failing to respond to follow-up messages, her family and friends raised the alarm.
The Brazilian Foreign Press Association (ACIE) has publicly expressed concern over her disappearance.
ACIE president Edmar Figueiredo urged officials to step up their investigation, emphasising that Peet had been a freelance correspondent in Brazil for over two years, reporting for major outlets such as Al Jazeera, The Times, and the BBC World Service.
The case is now being investigated by the 5th Missing Persons Division of the State Department of Homicides and Personal Protection (DHPP) in São Paulo, after initially being registered in Rio de Janeiro.
Authorities have yet to release further updates, but Peet’s disappearance has sparked growing concerns within the international journalism community.
