A 26-year-old British dancer, Georgia Brooke, tragically lost her life in a disturbing incident involving her boyfriend, Luke Cannon.
The UK court determined that she was strangled by Cannon during a drug-influenced encounter at his home in Bradford, West Yorkshire, in February 2022.
This revelation emerged during an inquest into her death, as reported by Yorkshire Live.
Investigators found evidence indicating that Brooke and Cannon had engaged in an “experimental” sexual relationship, with Brooke expressing a specific interest in “choking.”
Text messages between the couple, presented as evidence during the inquest, suggested Brooke had consented to such activities.
Coroner Martin Fleming, in his conclusion, ruled Brooke’s death as an “unlawful killing,” attributing it to Cannon’s use of “excessive” force.
However, there was no indication that Cannon intended to kill her. Brooke was declared dead at a hospital after experiencing cardiac arrest following the incident.
Despite initially alerting emergency services and accompanying Brooke to the hospital, Cannon fled through a fire door before authorities could question him.
A subsequent search led to the discovery of Cannon’s body, found hanged in a nearby wooded area.
Brooke’s family voiced concerns about changes in her behaviour after she began dating Cannon in 2021.
Samantha Beaumont, her mother, accused Cannon of being coercive, alleging that he dictated her daughter’s clothing choices and even her behaviour, including where she sat at family Christmas gatherings.
Contrastingly, Cannon’s brother, Joshua Cannon, testified that he genuinely cared for Brooke and was known for his generosity and helpfulness.
In the wake of Brooke’s tragic death, the coroner issued a stern warning about the dangers of sexual choking, emphasising its potential for fatal consequences. Given their inherent risks, Fleming highlighted the need for awareness and caution regarding such practices.
