British Airways Takes Action Against Captain Amid Allegations of Concealing Anger Management Issues

British Airways has taken decisive action against one of its captains following allegations that he concealed a history of anger management problems. The controversy surfaced after a whistleblower complaint was lodged with the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) in January, alleging that the pilot’s record had been sanitized to hide instances of sudden outbursts.

The CAA, responsible for regulating air travel and licensing civilian pilots in the UK, instructed British Airways to ground the captain pending an investigation into the claims. Although the captain’s identity remains undisclosed, reports indicate that he has been barred from operating flights but has not yet faced formal suspension from the airline.

Spanish infrastructure giant Ferrovial announced it is offloading its remaining 25 percent stake in London's Heathrow Airport to a French private equity group and Saudi Arabia's sovereign wealth fund. After owning the UK travel hub for 17 years, Ferrovial said on November 29, 2023, it had reached a 2.37 billion pound ($3.01 billion) deal with Paris-based Ardian and Riyahd's Public Investment Fund (PIF). A source familiar with the matter expressed concerns: “The thought of a captain displaying fits of rage while in charge of passengers at 30,000 feet is alarming. If there were documented anger management issues in his medical history, he should not have been cleared to fly. Falsifying medical records is a serious accusation with potential legal implications.”

The CAA declined to comment on the ongoing investigation.

This incident is not the first time British Airways has faced scrutiny over the conduct of its staff. In a separate incident last September, a pilot was dismissed from his position after boasting to colleagues about using cocaine off a topless woman shortly before a flight to the UK. The pilot, Mike Beaton, reportedly sent text messages to a stewardess, indicating he was incapacitated after a night of partying.

These incidents underscore the airline’s commitment to maintaining the highest professionalism and safety standards among its personnel.
